The Calico Sidewinders is a fictional minor league baseball team branding project inspired by the silver mining town of Calico, California, a preserved ghost town in the Mojave Desert. The mascot is a Rattlesnake miner named Striker, and he treats every game like a showdown. The branding evokes the rugged and toughness of Calico miners with elements such as the shoulder patches of traditional baseball teams. While also incorporating typographic inspiration from Saloon signage of the time. The concept aims to feel both playful and gritty, giving fans a team with a unique identity that embraces the adventurous spirit of California’s wild west gold rush.
